Our Core Business

Polyurethane Elastomers, an extraordinary versatile group of materials, for a great variety of products!

LUC’s core business is manufacturing polyurethane elastomers in all kind of shapes and sizes. Anything from tiny components of just a few mm for machines, up to large 2.5m diameter parts for steel mills or mining operations. In quantities from 1 to thousands. We don’t work with a catalogue, everything we do is custom-made, according to your design and/or your specifications. If you don’t have a design yet, no problem, we can help with that too.

We can supply a complete assembled product, or we can apply our PU to an item free issued. And if a part is worn out, we can refurbish this, removing the old PU and applying new.

Our PU Process

How our PU products are made!

LUC manufactures its products with a highly qualified team and modern machinery, including various multi-component casting machines and an extensive range of curing ovens.
Several manufacturing steps are required to produce a polyurethane elastomer part or to apply a polyurethane elastomer covering to a wheel, roller or other part. Depending on the particular product, some or all of the steps listed below may be used.

1. Receipt

Receipt and incoming inspection of products that need to be (re)coated. This step includes the disassembly of bearings and other parts.
Termékek

2. Remove Old PU

Removal of old coating and excessive dirt, grease and oil.

3. Degrease & Blast

To obtain a rough and clean surface, the metal core is shot-peened and completely degreased.
Primer

4. Primer

Right after shot-blasting a bonding agent is applied. This prevents oxidation of the metal and provides bonding with the polyurethane to be cast.

5. Mould & Pre-Heat

The carefully prepared product is first pre-baked and then preheated together with the mold. This is necessary to activate the adhesion promoter and bring the part and the mold to the PU processing temperature.

6. PU Production

One of 500 different polyurethane formulations is now produced. The reaction mixture consists of polyol, diisocyanate and chain extender components, sometimes supplemented by additives and/or fillers. This mixture is a homogeneous liquid and is processed at high temperature.

7. Cast

The liquid polyurethane mixture is poured into the mold, which can be oriented vertically or horizontally. A polymerization reaction in the mixture forms the polyurethane elastomer. Initially, the reaction leads to an increase in viscosity, and later the solid state is reached.

8. Demolding & Curing

As soon as the polyurethane reaction has changed to the solid state and a certain minimum strength has been reached, the mold is removed. Although a solid material is now available, the final properties have not yet been achieved. To this end, some curing and/or post-curing is required. This means that the material is conditioned at a certain temperature for a certain time, with both the temperature and the time depending on the type of PU.

9. Finishing

The product is finished in the machining department. The surface of the rolls can be both cylindrical and crowned, with or without longitudinal, transverse or spiral grooves and with a surface roughness to a certain degree.
